Deutsch als Fremdsprache: Rückmeldungen

 

Regarding Ruth Eidenberg as a German language instructor, the first thing that I find is that she makes learning German very comfortable.  I feel comfortable speaking German with her and making mistakes knowing that my mistakes will take us down new paths of learning.  Ruth has an excellent grammatical understanding of German and English and is therefore able to explain things very clearly.  I think also what makes Ruth unique is that she’s able to bring cultural aspects into the learning as well helping students understand why things are the way they are in Germany and why German people behave the way they do.  What you get from Ruth is much more than just learning the German language from a book doing exercises.  A student gets a much broader perspective on living in Germany, much more than just learning basic German grammar from a typical classroom language course.  Most of all I find that Ruth making learning German interesting by finding different material to read or by exploring different topics of discussion.  In summary, I recommend Ruth to my colleagues because Ruth creates a friendly, comfortable, interesting and complete (more than just grammar) learning environment.

Ich bin sehr gern in Ihren Untericht gekommen.
Was mir als Haupterinnerung geblieben ist, ist Ihre grosse Fähigkeit mir zuzuhören. Ich habe bei Ihnen nicht nur eine Unterstützung für meine deutsche Sprache bekommen, sondern auch für meinen Arbeitsplatz. Sie haben mich oft bestärkt und ich habe es geschätzt, da ich besonders in meiner Situation als Nicht-deutsche-Muttersprachlerin vielleicht mehr verunsichert war.
Ich war sehr glücklich jemanden zu haben, der sich auf mein spezifisches Bedürfnis einlassen konnte. Ich muss ergänzen, dass Sie immer fachlich geblieben sind, was mir auch besonders gefallen hat.
Für die Sprache selbst habe ich viele fachliche Hinweise von Ihnen bekommen und ich konnte mich in der Sprache vertiefen in der Art, wie es mir gefällt.

My weekly interactions with you, Ruth, have gone far beyond language trainings. The diversity of topics, the depth of our discussions, the openess of our exchanges have brought a lot of unexepected benefits during our meetings ... from cultural experiences to psychological discussions about professional life or personal adaptation to the country.
The positive attitude and excellent mood of these interactions have definitely made the language trainings far richer and more attractive , which is a key success factor for learning the German language.

At the end, the objective was dual: learning German and getting better integrated within the country ... and I have achieved that much better by working the way we did than working in a conventional manner.
Why .... because German is not an easy language, because I was reluctant  at the beginning, because we are not requested anymore to speak German fluently (therefore lack of commitment to pure German lessons) and because understaning the country, its population, its habits and culture, its social codes is part of Learning the country (meanining both the language and the culture and its inhabitants).

What is important I think ... is TO ADJUST to each student because each one has specific ways to learn and progress. This is YOUR added value I think. You can adjust and have unconventional ways (creative, alternative, more suited to each student) to teach and interact with the student . All of this has made me speak and speak (with many mistakes) far more, which is the objective at the end ... and help me overcome my reluctancy and discomfort in speaking German.
In addition, your broad culture, your international background and favor for travelling, your excellent level in English, your broad scope of interpersonal and social connections make you a far richer teacher.
At the same time, you can challenge and stay a bit firm, which is necessary ... because we still need to get back to the German language and its learning.
Finally, the connection with you as a person, your curiosity (positive sense) and interest for what I was living, experiencing with a great openess makes the student feel that he is not just one additional student but a special one.
Conclusion: If I come back to Germany, I would definitely come back to you for such trainings.

Was kann ich sagen unsere gemeinsame Arbeit betreffend. Ob diese Methode die ist, die Sie bei allen verwenden, oder ob sie nur an mich angepasst war, kann ich nicht wissen.

Es ist mir eingefallen, dass Sie bei mir eigentlich keine hatten oder besser gesagt, dass Ihre Methode darin bestand, sich in Ihrer Arbeit auf die Persönlichkeit des Gegenübers einzulassen.

Mit Abstand muss ich sagen, dass ich nicht das Gefühl habe, eine typische deutsche Lehrerin getroffen zu haben, die methodologischerweise, schrittweise, mir die Regeln der deutschen Sprache beigebracht hat, sondern eher jemand, der mich in die Seele der Sprache eingeführt hat, der mir geholfen hat, den Geist dieser Sprache zu erfassen, mich deren Komplexität anzunähern, deren Eigenschaft zu zähmen, oder besser gesagt: mich in die absolute Originalität des Germanischen eingeführt hat. Ohne offensichtliche Methode, ohne offensichtliche Richtung. Herkömmliches Lehren brauchte ich nicht. Was ich brauchte, war die Anstrengung, mit der Vernunft aufzuhören, damit ich mich von Ihrer Sprach-Welt durchdringen lassen konnte. Was wir gemeinsam gemacht haben, gehört zu dem Bereich der Vermittlung und nicht zu dem des Schulbesuchs.

Gilt, was wir gemeinsam gemacht haben, für alle oder nur für mich? Auf diese Frage habe ich keine Antwort. Das war für mich jedenfalls entscheidend, eine offene Tür zu Ihrer Kultur.

Ich bin noch weit davon entfernt, die Sprache zu beherrschen, mir fehlt noch so viel. Aber ich habe das Gefühl, dass ich ab jetzt mit dem Wichtigsten endlich anfangen kann, dass ich endlich die Spitze der Fäden Ihrer Welt ergriffen habe, die ich nun allmählich ziehen soll. Endlich hat sich die Tür geöffnet. Danke Ihnen !
